Preliminary Design
RMC’s services during preliminary design build on earlier project planning and alternatives analysis phases to clarify and characterize project requirements, obtain additional data, present the project to the public or stakeholders, and more clearly define anticipated total project costs. We prepare preliminary design documents, including final design criteria, preliminary drawings, outline specifications, and high-level written descriptions of the project.

Detailed Design
RMC has extensive experience designing water, recycled water, and wastewater pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, and treatment facilities that are consistent with industry standard design manuals and individual agency standards. We create constructible and cost effective designs that result in infrastructure and facilities that are easy-to-operate and maintain. We obtain O&M staff input during design and size facilities appropriately to allow for future growth or expansion. RMC’s disciplined design approach allows us to obtain environmental compliance, permits, and right-of-way acquisitions in a timely manner; to minimize community and existing system operational impacts; and to deliver fully functional, long-lasting facilities.

Value Engineering
RMC’s value engineering approach results in effective and practical cost-saving ideas that do not diminish the functionality or quality of the final facilities. To ensure operational integrity, we integrate agency engineering and operations staff input and design team involvement. RMC focuses on big picture issues to maximize value engineering study results and to avoid negative impacts to schedule and budget.

Engineering Services during Construction
As a designer, RMC works closely with the construction manager and contractor to make sure facilities are built to accomplish the desired project objectives. RMC’s engineering services provided during facility construction often involve reviewing submittal s, responding to requests for information (RFIs) attending site visits and construction meetings, and preparing cost estimates. If desired, RMC observes and assists in performance tests and initial operation of the project. We may also attend the project final walkthrough inspection, and upon completion of construction, can help in preparation of record drawings to document the project as constructed.
